Active Listening Lessons (Listening to Music the Orff Way!)

This workshop will focus on strategies that seek to engage students in active listening. Participants will receive a CD with PDF files of listening maps to accompany lesson plans, created by the clinician. A variety of musical styles will be explored ranging from classical to jazz and pop examples. (Bring your soprano recorder!) Be ready to sing, play, and move to music!

Wesley Ball is Coordinator of Music Education at Western Connecticut State University (Danbury, CT). He holds a BME degree from Shenandoah University-Conservatory, a MM degree in Piano Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, along with a MA and PhD in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University. He has taught public school music in Virginia and Ohio, and served as music specialist for the Purdue University Child Development Center. Orff level training includes Levels 1 and II at George Mason University; Level III at the University of Cincinnati-Conservatory. Wes presented at the 1992 and 1999 National Orff Conferences, and is the newly elected AOSA Region V Representative.
